Richard Lunsford's 140 Gallon Tuff Stuff Stock Tank
Back 7 of 8 Next
140 Gallon Tuff Stuff stock tank.

Substrate: None.

Structure: A synthetic resin stump is visible on the upper left. Otherwise, I don't remember.

Filtration: AquaClear 500 (supported underneath by a plastic bucket & (on its side) a bottle of Prestone anti-freeze, since otherwise it'd tip back & spill water into the floor). The live floating plant Salvinia natans is growing on the surface.

Lighting is provided by 2 large nearby windows & sunlight; I added a 4' shop light with 2 48" light bulbs suspended by chains from the ceiling.

This is a fish & snail setup, not a turtle setup. The ring of table salt around the stock tank lip is to stop snails from crawling out & dying on the floor - later I used a ring of pennies (copper) instead of salt. Copper in high concentrations can be toxic; it wasn't in the water!
