The Duetto did a fine job of moving water enough to maintain oxygenation and flow to the live plants. It would likely not have been adequate for biofiltration without the plants. I happened to have an old one & just used it as a water pump. I removed the sponge section since it clogged too fast. The submersible heater is protected by a Tronic-brand heater guard.
