1. Unlawful to take, capture, kill, or attempt to take, capture or kill, to possess, sell, or trade, or offer to sell or trade without a scientific collection permit or written permit from the Commissioner specifically stating what the permitee may do with said species. This section applies to the following:

  • Mississippi DBT
  • Gopher Tort
  • Alabama Map
  • Alabama Red Belly
  • Alligator Snapper
  • Barbour's Map
  • Escambia Bay Map

2. Unlawful to collect or offer for sale or trade any box turtle, box turtle part or reproductive part except by permit (scientific collection or written permit as in (1)). Applies to Terrapene Carolina.

3. Unlawful to collect, harvest, possess, offer for sale or trade any common snapper or softshells with a carapace length less than 8 inches. Applies to the following:
  • Apalone ferox
  • Apalone muticus muticus
  • Apalone muticus calvatus
  • Apalone spiniferus spiniferus
  • Apalone spiniferus asper
  • Chelydra serpentina serpentina

4. Unlawful to take or possess for than 10 legally taken turtles per day from public waters of the banks of public waters of Alabama.
